The money raised by individuals through fundraising is necessary in allowing Autism Initiatives UK to continue supporting our service users and allowing us to develop new ways to help the people who require our support. There are a wide variety of ways in which individuals can get involved with Autism Initiatives UK and help raise money. Donations Donations can be made securely via the World Pay or send a cheque made payable to Autism Initiatives UK to our Head Office in Liverpool.
Your donations can help towards the cost of equipment and providing services for children and adults with autism. £10 - Will purchase a sensory game for children with autism at Peterhouse School in Southport. £25 - Will buy a new book for our Resource Centre at Number 6 which will be a valuable source of information and encouragement to a parent of a newly diagnosed young person with Asperger Syndrome. £50 - Will buy 2 new pottery moulds and clay to help service users make and paint their pottery at Parrs Farm in Fleetwood. £100 - Will buy sensory equipment for The Oaks Resource Centre on the Isle of Man. £350 - Will pay for an initial assessment from our Outreach Coordinator to identify an individual’s support needs. £700 - Will buy a new computer for our Autism Learning Resource Centre at Mere Brow in Lancashire. Fundraising events and sponsorship Undertaking a sponsored walk, running a marathon or rattling a collecting tin outside your local supermarket are great ways of raising money for Autism Initiatives UK. If you are thinking about doing a sponsored event, please use our Sponsorship form and remember to ask people to tick the Gift Aid box so we can reclaim the tax paid on any sponsorship money. A staff team from Edinburgh ran in the Edinburgh marathon in 2006 and raised over £1,200 towards providing day trips and excursions for service users at Number 6 – our drop-in service for people with Asperger’s Syndrome and/or High Functioning Autism. While Dublin staff ran the Dublin marathon to raise money for their local service. We also had an employee of Scottish Life took part in a fundraising event called the Ramshackle rally that saw him buy and kit out an old van which was then used to drive from Dover across to Calais and then on to Krakow. Remembering us in your will It’s something we don’t want to think about but making a will is an important part of life. Now is the time to consider a cause you would like to support and include that cause in your will. Please speak to a solicitor about this and it’s not as expensive as you think. Remember, a legacy left to Autism Initiatives UK will be spent in helping children and adults with autism from across the UK. If you want to talk about possibly leaving money to us in your will then call Jim Murray our Chief Executive on 0151 330 9500. Give As You Earn (GAYE) Employees can contribute to charities through the Charities Aid Foundation scheme, Give As You Earn. The scheme works by deducting donations directly from salary to allow tax efficient donations. Some companies will match the donations made by staff, making the gift twice as valuable. GAYE raises £15 million per year for 7,000 charities and can be a steady source of funds. It also raises the profile of the charity and may lead to additional memberships, further donations or legacies. If you are an employee then speak to your employer about the possibility of supporting our work in this way. Please feel free to contact Alison McGachy on 0131 240 2374 or sfr@autisminitiatives.org to discuss this and any other option for individual giving to Autism Initiatives UK.
