Cafe on the Corner

After five fantastic years Autism Initiatives’ Café on the Corner is closing its doors. Many autistic people have both worked and volunteered in the café, gaining valuable skills and enjoying working in a supportive environment. Jen said, “I am capable of doing more things than I thought, like coping with busy environments and dealing with lots of customers.”

Catherine Steedman, National Director, Autism Initiatives Scotland, said, “Unfortunately, due to continued financial pressure over a number of years, it is with deep regret that Autism Initiatives has reluctantly made the decision to discontinue its operation of the Café on the Corner. We are sad about this, but so pleased with all the achievements gained and want to thank all our wonderful staff and volunteers and the service users who have undertaken work experience at the café – we have had a fantastic five years. We also want to thank all our customers – it has been a pleasure to serve you! We will continue to operate until 19 September and hope to see as many of you over the coming weeks as possible.”
