Autism Spectrum Disorder Initiatives
ASDI started operating in Southern Ireland in November 2005. Our services provide a homely living environment and our focus is person centred, which enables each client to achieve his or her highest level of potential and enhances their quality of life.
As part of the person centred plan each client and their family are involved in the decision making process in order to fulfil their complex needs and requirements as individuals.
The services we currently provide in Ireland include:
The Paddocks, opened in 2007, is one of two ASDI residential houses in Co. Wicklow and is home to 5 young people with autism. The house itself is situated in a quiet area off the N11 called Coynes Cross, just outside Ashford village.
The Meadows is a residential house, incorporating the ethos of supported living and is situated close to the town centre of Arklow, Co. Wicklow. It became home to three young people with autism in the summer of 2008.
The Blossoms Apartments
Our newest residential service is based in Stillorgan was opened in August 2010. These three, purpose built modern, ground floor apartments, are designed to cater for the specific needs of ASDI's client group. The apartments are situated in the Beechcourt development and each apartment will accommodate three service users.
The Anchorage Day Service
ASDI provides a Day Service in The Anchorage, Wicklow Town, which facilitates 20 adults on the Spectrum. The service provides many activities to suit each person as an individual; we seek to provide each person with a specifically tailored person centred plan. These activities range from music therapy, art and crafts, multi-sensorial relaxation, swimming and a broad range of community activities to assist each client with independent living skills, community awareness, inclusion and socialization.
The ASDI Outreach Service has a person centred approach to assisting people with Asperger syndrome. This support will vary from person to person depending on need, but may include social opportunity, development of life skills, personal care, and measures to combat isolation in the community.
ASDI has opened a respite service which will provide support to clients and their families in Wicklow Town. This will provide a homely environment for clients and give them a chance to enjoy the relaxing environment of this seaside town.
Cois Dara is the newest of ASDI’s residential services, having first opened it’s doors in January 2013. Since then we have moved premises, and welcomed a new service user. We are currently in the middle of transitioning three new service users into the house.
The Harbour is our newest day service which opened in August 2012. This Service offers the opportunity for three recent school leavers to begin the transition to independent living.
Family Initiatives Project
Provides support to the families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. It is a parent led project which aims to offer a combination of advocacy, information, education, training and support for families of children with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome.
All ASDI services work in partnership with the Health Service Executive (HSE) who make it possible for ASDI to provide these services for clients and their families.
