Autism Initiatives in Northern Ireland
Autism Initiatives is the largest voluntary sector provider of direct support services to children and adults with autism in Northern Ireland.
We were established in Northern Ireland in 2002 and have expanded rapidly. We now provide services to over 200 families and employ almost 250 staff. Our reputation as a flexible provider of high quality services has been instrumental in supporting this growth.
We work in close partnership with families and service users as well as other voluntary organisations and colleagues in the statutory sector. The Northern Ireland government is developing a strategy for autism services and Autism Initiatives are involved in all aspects of this. A key government target is to move people away from long stay hospitals and we have played a key role in providing supported living for some of these people.
The services we currently provide in Northern Ireland include:
Our flexible, practical Floating Support Service is Autism Specific and offers FREE support with:

Health and Activities Programmes
Providing purposeful and enjoyable activities for adults with autism throughout the week. The aim of these services is to maximise the use of community facilities, and support service users to develop occupationally fulfilling lifestyles.
Community Outreach services provide packages of support for individuals with autism in or from their own homes. Support delivered ranges from a few hours per week to more substantial daily input. Each package of support is unique to the individual. The focus of the support can include assistance in developing social skills, home-based skills or occupational support.
Autism Initiatives Northern Ireland is committed to supporting and developing a volunteer network. The organisation does not exist to provide volunteering opportunities for their own sake but rather volunteer participation is valued because it helps the organisation to accomplish its mission in the most cost effective and engaging manner.
Autism Initiatives provides a range of training courses and learning opportunities for its staff based on the mandatory requirements of regulatory bodies, the values of the organisation and the needs of the staff. The purpose of providing the learning and development activities is to help the organisation achieve its mission and vision.
Our expectation is that people with Autism can learn and develop and we support this process every single day. We also achieve this by providing our staff with the best training so they can carry out their work to the highest standard possible.
