Occupational resources in Edinburgh and Lothians

Providing purposeful and enjoyable activities for adults with autism with a focus on developing occupational activities throughout the week. The aim of these services is to maximise the use of community facilities, and support service users to develop occupationally fulfilling lifestyles. It is based on our belief that everyone person with autism has skills, abilities and the potential to be occupationally active.

Lothian occupational services

We provide community living outreach packages of support for individuals within or from their own homes. Support delivered ranges from a few hours per week to more substantial daily input. This is currently available throughout the Lothians region to adults with autism and Asperger Syndrome. Each package of support is unique to the individual. The focus of the support can include assistance in developing social skills, home-based skills or occupational support.

We have three service bases at Craigmillar, Inverleith and West Lothian from which these activities are coordinated. Some building based activities are also offered where that is appropriate for the individual.

We increasingly use the facilities in our Social Enterprise business to offer employment opportunities and experiences in a real work setting. These currently include:

the Café on the Corner

At Hill Street, Edinburgh where service users are involved in the delivery of a high quality morning and lunchtime take away and seated café service.

Residential Care

A unique registered facility at Auchenhuive, in Aberdeenshire which offers an active lifestyle in a rural setting.

Personalisation / Self Directed Support

We are involved in the provision of services that are funded and managed through the Self Directed Support programme. Autism Initiatives Scotland helps to facilitate an innovative project to develop a national central referral point for autism specific SDS services.

New developments

We are actively developing a range of new services throughout Scotland, and welcome enquiries about our existing services and other unmet needs. We have an increasing focus on supporting individuals to develop lifestyles that are healthy, occupationally active and enjoyable.
