"It has changed my life"

Supporting young autistic adults through meaningful, professional work placements and training opportunities.

Many autistic people struggle to find full time employment with only an estimated 15% of diagnosed people in work (TUC 2015). Working at our social enterprises can be a first step to getting a job for some young adults with autism; we are confident that everyone who undertakes a supported work placement with us will develop confidence, social skills and skills for independent living.

Our social enterprises are all located in and around the vibrant seaside town of Southport in Merseyside and include cafes, a bike refurbishment scheme and a vegetable growing business and shop.

"I came from college where I was bullied because I was different and wouldn’t fit in. I was distraught and even had problems with a teacher. When I met new people here, they helped me with new tasks. It’s been really interesting: serving, taking orders, doing deliveries. I gained more confidence and am happier. I fit in here. It has changed my life. I’m really proud to be here.” Mark

"My confidence has improved by being part of Autism Initiatives, it has given me the ability to talk to people, not be so shy, and become independent. I have changed. This has helped me in work and in my personal life." Shane

Unique tailored placements
We meet with every potential candidate in advance and develop a placement designed to fulfil their needs. We provide an initial assessment followed by a fixed term specialist autism placement with individual and personalised support by fully trained staff.

Many of our placements are paid for through local authority budgets, however some people choose to self-fund opportunities for themselves or loved ones.

Great Events for a Great Reason

From time to time we host special events at our social enterprises to raise funds and support the viability of these ventures.

Our next such event is a wine tasting on 20th October 2018 at Great Little Place in Southport.
